How do I find a password saved on my iPhone?

Apple introduced the dedicated Passwords app with iOS 18.

It keeps saved:

• website passwords
• app passwords
• passkeys
• verification codes
• Wi-Fi passwords

If you have followed an older guide telling you to open Settings → Passwords but cannot find the same screen, your iPhone may simply be running a newer version of iOS.

1. Open the Passwords app.
2. Unlock it using:
   • Face ID
   • Touch ID
   • or your iPhone passcode
3. Use the search field to type the name of the website or app — for example amazon, facebook or gmail.
4. Tap the account you want.
5. Tap the Password field.
6. If you need to use the password elsewhere, use Apple’s available copy option rather than manually retyping a long password where appropriate.

A saved account can include information such as:

• website or app name
• username or email address
• password
• website address
• related account information

Seeing an account listed does not mean you should change anything.

If you only need to check the password, you can simply view it and leave the rest alone.

First, use iPhone search.

From the Home Screen, swipe down and search for:

If the phone is running iOS 18 or later, the Passwords app should be available.

If the phone is running iOS 17 or earlier, use:

On iOS 17 or earlier, open:

Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

Then select the website or app whose saved password you want to view.

Not every password you use is necessarily saved on your iPhone.

Possible reasons include:

• you chose not to save it
• it was saved in a different password manager
• it belongs to another Apple Account or device setup
• the service uses Sign in with Apple
• the account uses a passkey rather than a traditional password
• the password was deleted

If the password is genuinely not saved, use the website or app’s official password-reset or account-recovery process.

Do not use password-reset links received in unexpected messages.

A passkey is a newer way of signing in that can replace a traditional password on services that support it.

Instead of remembering and typing a password, your iPhone can confirm that it is you using Face ID, Touch ID or your device authentication.

If an account uses a passkey, you may not see an ordinary password to copy. That does not necessarily mean anything is missing.

You usually do not need to manually write down a password just because you found it.

Your iPhone can use Password AutoFill for saved accounts, and the Passwords app can copy a password when you genuinely need it somewhere else.

If you copy a password:

• paste it only where you intended
• make sure you are on the genuine website or app
• avoid sending passwords by ordinary text message or email
